Planetary Hours are another method of timing magickal workings to
align with corresponding energies. If, for example, you wish to work for
communication but can't possibly wait until a Wednesday, you can plan your work
to take place in the hour of Mercury. Or, should you wish to work for a
communication about love, you might plan to work on Wednesday in the hour of
Venus.
To see the energies associated with the various planetary hours, please see
the 'Days' section on the Correspondences page.
You will notice that there are only 7 planetary hours calculated, due to the
fact that the farther planets had not yet been discovered when this system
originated. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are not an integral part of the planetary
energy system, but rather an extension of the energies of Mercury, Venus, and
Mars.
To calculate planetary hours, the hours of light and hours of dark are each
divided into 12 equal parts, which are then assigned to a planet in a particular
order. Or, you can use the handy dandy Planetary Calculator that I've written.
To use the calculator, you will need to know the
day of the week, and the exact time of sunrise and sunset on that day.
(The latter times can be found at the
US
Naval Observatory Site.)
